2022Heart of the Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most influential red wine grape in the world, a variety that has shaped the identity of entire regions. Its story begins on Bordeaux’s Left Bank in the 1700s, where gravelly soils, maritime winds, and careful blending established a style defined by structure, longevity, and quiet power. Over the next two centuries, Cabernet traveled—first across Europe, then across oceans—finding its most profound New World expression in Napa Valley. There, warmer days, abundant sunshine, and ambitious winemaking elevated Cabernet to global icon status, inspiring generations of collectors with wines known for depth, clarity, and graceful aging. Few varietals have sparked such lasting passion or produced so many enduring benchmarks.
Red Mountain, Washington’s smallest AVA, is uniquely suited to carry that legacy forward. Positioned on the eastern edge of the Yakima Valley, it offers one of the state’s warmest growing seasons, ensuring full ripeness even in cooler years. Its south-facing slopes receive intense sunlight, while persistent winds from the Yakima and Columbia River corridors naturally reduce mildew pressure and thicken grape skins, enhancing color and tannin. The soils—ancient layers of windblown loess over Missoula Flood gravels—provide superb drainage and moderate vigor, giving viticulturists precise control over concentration. Combined with significant diurnal shifts that preserve acidity and lift, Red Mountain consistently produces Cabernet Sauvignon of remarkable density, polish, and longevity, placing it among the world’s great terroirs for this noble varietal.

"“Ripe currants, new leather, spicy oak, camphor, and gorgeous minerality all emerge from the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Heart Of The Hill Vineyard, another concentrated, textured 2022 that has flawless balance, ripe, silky tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It has some classic Red Mountain austerity, yet it's perfectly balanced and elegant.”"

"“The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Heart of the Hill holds nothing back. Vividly spicy and fruit-centric, it swirls up with a whiff of crushed rocks and flint, giving way to masses of red plums and currants complemented by notes of shaved cedar and a hint of vanilla. Deeply textural and rich yet expertly balanced with juicy acidity, it saturates the senses with black raspberry and clove. An elegant layer of fine tannins adds refinement and pose towards the close. Structured and youthfully tense, this finishes with amazing length and potency yet maintains wonderful freshness. Cellaring will be required to fully enjoy this unbridled beast from Red Mountain.”"

Heart of the Hill Vineyard
The Heart of the Hill Vineyard is aptly named as it lies in the very heart of the Red Mountain AVA. Heart of the Hill is certified sustainably farmed and was planted from 2006 to 2014. As those who know Red Mountain might expect, the Cabernet Sauvignon from this site is the boldest of the three wines, showing a darker fruit and incense profile with a tightly packed core that contains a hedonistic intensity, but it maintains its balance.
